The Illness Can Distort The World
It can be so confusing for someone with dementia. The world may seem out of kilter. Or it can be crystal clear, yet have nothing to do with what everyone else sees as reality.
Caring For ''Their'' World
We offer specific services for our residents who are living with Alzheimer's disease, dementia and other forms of memory impairment. These services require special licensing and special training, along with a tremendous amount of patience and understanding. Our fabulous caregivers strive to help their residents to live comfortably within "their" world, increase their quality of life and maintain their dignity.
On A Personal Level
When a resident is in our Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Program, our level of personal supervision increases in proportion to the level of cognitive ability. Our services include:
- Recognizing the capabilities and identifying the needs of each individual.
- Establishing an individual routine that keeps the resident within their comfort zone. (See Personal Routine .)
- Allowing the resident to express themselves and live in their world. (Safety permitting.)
- Monitoring proper nutrition and adequate hydration.
On A Social Level
When a resident is in our Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Program, we strive to keep them active and involved in the world around them as much as possible. Our services include:
- Encouraging participation in daily activities designed for memory impaired individuals.
- Communicating with family members, addressing their needs and helping them stay involved in the life of their loved one.
- For those who are at risk of flight, they receive a Wanderguard bracelet to wear. Then, if they try to leave the grounds, an alarm warns our staff and the resident is "redirected" to another course of travel within the facility.
